Topic: Types of Transportation

In this final blog, I have posted simulation on Types of Transportation in Bhutan from the class four Social Studies textbook through integrating ICT. I have chosen this topic to be taught because I found that this topic is very interesting to teach them through simulation. Integrating ICT in teaching lesson helps students to motivate in their learning as children are fascinated with technology and it encourages and motivate them to learn in the classroom. It also improves engagement and knowledge retention of the students because when ICT is integrated into the lessons, students become more engaged in their work. This is because technology provides different opportunities to make it more fun and enjoyable in terms of teaching the same things in different ways. As a consequence of this increased engagement, it is said that they will be able to retain knowledge more effectively and efficiently. 

Creation of the teaching material

As of now, I found that creating of simulation as ICT integration is very convenience and easy to prepare in my teaching learning of the lesson. So, in my final blog, I have created a Simulation as constructive tool to teach the concept of ‘Types of transportation in Bhutan’. Firstly I downloaded all the material needed for it like picture, gif, instrumental beats and the sound of each transport from the link respectively picture of transportation - Bing, gif of transportation - Bing, free instrumental beats - Bing, sound of transportation - Bing.  Secondly I opened the PowerPoint presentation slide to work on. I made a first slide as introductory introducing topic and level of the class. To brainstorm the child I inserted the picture of four types of transportation in Bhutan and added an animation to them. I inserted music background by clicking on insert pane and then inserted Sound that required in the simulation. In my animation, I kept the timing With Previous in order to make adjustment in timing with previous and adjusted the time from animation pane.

Then I inserted the rectangle shape from insert menu bar and placed in front of first introductory slide and applied the animation on it. On the shape I inserted the text box so that I can write about the first transportation of Bhutan and I drag and drop the gif of horse. For them I applied the animation with previous and adjusted the time. For each transportation that I have in my simulation, I inserted sound of the particular transportation and I applied the animation on it. For the other transportation I did the same step as mentioned above.

Lastly I add a thank you slide and started to insert the sound for each of the transportation and applied animation and adjusted the animation on animation pane so that it can make a sound in time of show. The background sound is inserted and volume is being made in low in order not to miss the sound inserted in PowerPoint.

 

Instructions for the use of content-based materials

I will use this simulation during Lesson Development to convey the information input of the lesson. In order to make them familiar with the topic, I will introduce the topic and will let them to do the group discussion about the topic. After their discussion, I will ask them to share their ideas to the whole class. When the lesson introduction is done, I will show the simulation for teaching the main content of the lesson. So, we can use this simulation to teach about the transportation of Bhutan. Instead of making them read the text, we can let students watch the simulation, ask them to listen to the audio carefully and ask them what was it all about. Students will carefully watch and listen the simulation. Then students will cross check their earlier discussion with the simulation. After that we can make them list down the transportation of Bhutan. In that way, students can clearly understand the concept about the transportation of Bhutan. We can also make them discuss about the activity questions after they finish watching the simulation video. Let them write the answer for the provided question in the PowerPoint. For this activity students will get 15 minutes to answer your four questions based on the simulation they watched. After that, I will let them to do the follow up by sharing their answers to the whole class to check the understanding of the lesson.
