When ICT is integrating in the classroom teaching learning, it is believed that the skills of the future are the use of powerful technologies. The traditional textbook can no longer fulfill the need in the rapid changing and the information-explosion world. Moreover, traditional teacher-centered approach makes classroom no longer an effective system to prepare students for the realities which they face in the near future. Technology works as a best supporting tool making complex processes or creative experience either possible or easier to accomplish and technology can offer new ways to provide meaningful, real-life context for learning. So, it is important for the educators to integrate technology in the classroom teaching learning.  

In this forth blog, I did on the topic disappearing of forest from class four social studies textbook where this topic was given by the tutor and I will be teaching on why and how people destroy forest and ways to protect forest. I found that teaching about forest is very important for the younger children because we depend on forests for our survival, from the air we breathe to the wood we use. Forest provides us with shelter, livelihoods, water, food, and fuel security. All these activities directly or indirectly involve forests. Forest is not only important for the human, but also important for the animals as well. Forests provide habitats to diverse animal species. They are home to 80% of the world’s terrestrial biodiversity, and they also form the source of livelihood for many different human settlements. Besides providing habitats for animals and livelihoods for animals, forest also offer watershed protection, prevent soil erosion and mitigate climate change. So it’s important for children to know the overall importance of forests in our life. Moreover, it’s important for the children to know why and how people destroy the forest.

Creation of teaching learning materials

For this blog, I have created a Camtasia video as a Constructive tools on teaching disappearing of forest for class four students. Before I made the Camtasia video, firstly, I have downloaded different related pictures on the topic such as shifting cultivation, fuel, logging, forest fires, and overgrazing images that causes the disappearing of forest from the Google and I separate all the pictures according to the sub-topics by creating different folders and inserted in the folders. In next, I have collected all the information and I kept all the information ready for preparing presentation. After that, I opened the Microsoft PowerPoint and started creating the PowerPoint. While creating PowerPoint, I used all the features and tools available in PowerPoint.

I have seventeen slides in my PowerPoint including Thank You slide. In my PowerPoint, I have explained and emphasized on three important sub-topics such as how people destroy forest, why people destroy forest and finally on ways to protect forest. Then, I have inserted the related pictures according to the topics to provide the accurate information to the students. In the first slide, I inserted the pictures related to the topic and then I inserted the text box to write text.

Then I changed the colour of the text from the font color to create the presentation more attractive. After that I inserted the related pictures and followed by inserting the text box. I have even looked at the colour combination of the pictures and the text. Then I inserted different colours of text in different slides. For the other slides, I did the same step/ procedures as mentioned above. In my last PowerPoint slide, I have given few questions related to the topics as homework and they will send their work in the Whatsapp and Wechat to check the understanding of their learning.  

After that I applied the animation on it. While applying the animation, I have selected each pictures and text one by one which takes a lot of time. I opened the ‘animation pane’ to make the duration and time. I used different animation to captures the attention of the learners and to understand it in a better way. Then I did voiceover in PowerPoint slide using AddsIn tool bar which is directly connected with the Camtasia app. While I recording, I have made many mistakes where I have to do it repeatedly more than 3-4 times. After that, I have recorded my voiceover step by step in order not to make more mistakes. I have converted my PowerPoint into three short videos and saved it in my desktop. After me completing all the recording, then I have imported my files in Camtasia to make a video. Though the video should be of 10 minutes, for me, it took a day to complete my video making because I have to cut the unwanted one, then trim it and I have even inserted transition in the Camtasia video in order to make my video attractive. Finally, I have done my Camtasia video and produce it.

Instructions for the use of content- based materials

I will use my Camtasia Video during my lesson development because lesson development is the crucial stage where teacher need to input all the information to make them more familiar with the topic. In this stage, students must acquire the information of the main topics that we discussed in the session. But in my lesson introduction, I will ask few students to share what they have learned in the previous class and will let them to make a connections with the today’s lesson. Before I move on with the main topics, in their respective group, I will let them to discuss how and why people destroy forest and suggest few ways to protect forest. Then will discuss on their discussion. Then I will move on the lesson development where I will show my Camtasia Video to get more information of the lesson. So will let them to watch, listen carefully and take some important notes on it. Throughout my lesson, I will show my video and I have provided few questions in the video to take it as a home work due to the limited time. Before we end our session, will do some question answer session as a class work in order to check their understanding of the lesson and that will be the follow up of the lesson that we discussed. So, using this technology will allow students to collaborate with peers and experts to work together and it can contribute to successful results in the classroom as to support children’s socialization.

I have also provided few questions for your learning activity. They must do the learning activity as a home work after watching the video. Learning activity must be carry out in an individual. There are four sets of questions in it. After they have completed their task, I will ask them to send it through either Whatsapp or Wechat group to check your understanding of the today’s lesson. Finally, we will wrap up our session.

When ICT is integrating in the classroom teaching learning, it improves engagement and acknowledges retention. When it integrated into lessons, students become more engaged in their work because technology provides different opportunities to make it more fun and enjoyable in terms of teaching the same things in different ways. Moreover, it helps teachers to interact with students which help in improving teaching skills and innovative teaching. So, it is the teacher’s innovativeness that makes lesson delivery meaningful. So, it is important for the educators to integrate technology in the classroom teaching learning.  

In this blog, I have chosen weather from class three textbook and I will be teaching on types of weather. I found that teaching about the weather is very important for the younger children because with the change of time, climate also goes on changing where it happens due to global warming. It changes all the conditions of the climate of a region. So it’s important for children to know the overall change of climate in a region causes the average temperature to go up during summer and reduce to the coldest point during winter. Moreover, it’s important for the children to know why it happens and what the things that we should do according to the weather.

Finally I produced my final video.  My PowerPoint consists of different types of weather that the students are already familiar with it.

Instructions for the use of content- based materials

I will use this PowerPoint slides during my lesson development. In my lesson introduction, I will ask few students to look outside and share us how do they feel today by providing some clues to them such as feeling warm, cold, hot and all.  Then I will write all their points on the board and by asking the questions, I will introduce the topic “WEATHER”. I will give chance for them to share what they know about the weather. For the more information, I will let them to look at my PowerPoint slide and listen to my voiceover that converted into video format. Using this technology will help them to improve their listening skills, memory retention and definitely it captures the attention of the learners. Moreover, it helps them in engaging themselves in the learning.

I have also provided few questions on the PowerPoint slides. You must do the learning activity after listening to the voiceover. Learning activity must be carry out in group. There are four sets of questions in the slide. After that from each group, you will share your answers to the whole class to check your understanding of the today’s lesson and that will be the follow up of the lesson. Finally, we will wrap up our session.

Domestic Animals

 Learning with ICT is to bring variety of instructional events and contextual experience as to realize discovering, comparing, collaborating, networking, doing, making, building, arranging, figuring out, reflecting, sharing, publishing, evaluating, feed backing, changing, etc… of learning for all.

In this blog, I will be writing on the teaching of the topic “Domestic Animals” from the textbook of English, grade one. I found this topic very interesting to teach grade one students because by this time, students are already familiar with so many animals and they also knew some name of the animals. But they may not be aware of domestic animals and wild animals. So in order to know the differences between domestic animals and wild animals, I have chosen this topic to teach them. So, I have used PowerPoint presentation as one of the constructive tool to create simulation.

Steps in creating simulation on PPT

I have created the simulation in Microsoft power point on the topic “Domestic Animals” for grade one by making the best use of all features and tools in it. Firstly, I have selected topic for simulation and downloaded pictures from the Google. Then I inserted the rectangle shape from insert menu bar and placed in front of first introductory slide and applied the animation on it. On the shape I inserted the text box so that I can write about the Domestic Animals.

I have scribbled some pictures and inserted related pictures and text in one slide. After that I added animations and transitions to my images so that they can fit in one page in PowerPoint presentation and to let pictures appear one by one. For them I applied the animation with previous and adjusted the time. For the other animals, I did the same step as mentioned above. I have downloaded sound from YouTube, converted and trimmed. Then I have inserted in PPT.

At the end of the slide I have provided the questions related to domestic animals to let students recall and rethink on what they understood from the simulation.

Instructions for the use of content-based material

I will use this simulation during my lesson development to the students. After I introduced the lesson introduction, I will use this simulation for conveying more information about the content during the lesson development. Instead of making them read the text, we can let students watch the simulation, ask them to listen to the audio carefully and ask them what was it all about. After that we can make them list down the some of the Domestic Animals at their home. In that way, students can clearly understand the concept about the Domestic Animals. We can also make them discuss about the activity questions after they finish watching the simulation video. Let them write the answer for those questions provided in the PowerPoint. After that, I will let them to do the follow up by sharing the answers to the whole class.

Describing and identifying 2-D shapes

 

ICT has become integral part of life, the initiation of information and technology has made tremendous changes in 21^st century. All the fields of the life are influenced by this digital phenomenon. The advent of ICT in teaching and learning helped to improve quality of education where teaching and learning eventually became an engaging active process related to real life. ICT is helping everybody to fulfill all kind of needs, as a result ICT learning is not limited to four walls of the classroom, and information transmission takes place even outside the classroom. ICT is providing good opportunities to develop teachers to transform the teaching methodology to meet individual needs.

Since, ICT can be use as a tool to perform calculations, draw graphs, and help problem solving. The most obvious example of using ICT is during an illustrated, various mathematical images of geometry can be presented to the students using a projector. The use of two- dimensional imagery will give an obvious idea and can help a student to understand.

I have designed this  PowerPoint presentation as an information tools on describing and identifying 2-D Shapes on Mathematics textbook for class two where students grasp information through listening to the nursery rhymes and then they have to do the activity given in the PowerPoint presentation. 

Creation of the materials

 So, I have designed an activity on describing and identifying 2-D shapes for grade two students with the aim of understanding and correctly identify properties in each of a range of 2-D shapes.  In this activity, I have open the Microsoft PowerPoint and made the presentation. Then I have inserted the shapes from the tool bars and drawn the shapes and I colored it all shapes differently in order to make enjoyable, easily understand by the students and to have their learning really fast with using nursery rhymes. I even drew the shapes in Microsoft Word and then I wrote rhymes describing each 2-D shapes. In this video, I have downloaded the nursery rhymes and recorded on my phone. Then I have insert audio record on my Power point. From that video I am sure that students will get an idea of 2-D shapes and they feel more enjoyable to learn better.

How and when to use teaching materials    

By using the ICT informative tools, I have first introduce the 2-D shapes on the screen with graphics. After that, I will show a short video clip on describing and identifying 2-D shapes. I want them to listen carefully and watch the short video and take some notes from the video.  After that I will let students to do a short learning activity. I have created this learning activities on classifying shapes and its attributes where students look at each shape on the screen, write its name and how many sides did they see. Then they have to color it differently to make them familiar between two dimensional shapes and three dimensional shapes as they move to upper grade. At the end, they will present to the class as the follow up to check their understanding of the lesson. So, when students are provided with different shapes, they can easily identify the shapes in their every day lives. Learning shapes not only helps children identify and organizes visual information, it helps them learn skills in other subject areas including, math, and science. Moreover, it also helps children understand other signs and symbols and make them fun and enjoyable.   

                                                                                  

 

About Me

 

I am Dawa Dema from Pemagatshel dzongkhang. I have completed my lower school in my village and high school in Nangkor Higher Secondary School. Currently, I am pursuing my bachelor's degree in Paro College of Education. I have reached final year. I feel great when I think that I am in the final semester. I always thank my parents for supporting me in the successful completion of my studies. 

During my four years in college life, I have learned so many things where I experienced new things with a new environment, and learning in a new environment really changed my life where I got motivated by my friends to try new stuff and explore the world beyond.

When I think about me being in the final year, I get excited and at the same time, I feel nervous because of the RCSC  that we are going to appear soon. I know RCSC is the final battle that we have to do sooner or later. So, I am hoping to do it better.
